‘Outstanding’ dwelling obtains Planning Approval!
Planning Permission has been granted under Paragraph 55 of the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) for this house in the countryside. The Planning Officer said that “the dwelling is outstanding and reflects the highest standards of architecture and is sensitive to the environment in which it would sit.” The Committee voted unanimously to approve the scheme, describing it as “beautiful”.
NPPF paragraph 55 sets out a number of exceptional circumstances in which new homes can be built in open countryside. Designs should be truly outstanding or innovative, helping to raise the standards of design more generally in rural areas.
Project Logistics Architecture worked in collaboration with Ares Landscape Architecture and Stainton Planning on the proposed design. OPUN, the independent review panel in the East Midlands, commended the integrated approach we took to planning, architecture and landscape.
The design is simple and is read as part of the wider landscape. Time was spent early in the project to understand the context, and the research was revisited at each stage of the design.
The dwelling consists of three distinct forms which span the natural contours of the site. These are linked together using familiar materials in an innovative way. The design has a transition across the site, from the familiar field barn at the entrance, through to the private living accommodation beyond.
Project Logistics Architecture are delighted to have achieved unanimous approval first time, for this Paragraph 55 project. Director of the Practice, Jillian Mitchell, says “This project clearly demonstrates what can be achieved by having time to think in the early stages of a project. Finding the right people to work alongside us has really paid off, and we were commended for our collaborative approach. Our commitment to high quality architectural design shines through in this project.”
